Elephant Fountain
The symbol of Catania: the lava-basalt elephant carrying an Egyptian obelisk. At the center of the square since 1736, designed by Vaccarini.
Cathedral of Sant'Agata
Rebuilt in Baroque style after 1693. Home to the relics of the city's patron saint and the tomb of Vincenzo Bellini.

Seat of the City Hall, with a Baroque facade on the north side of the square. The contrast of white marble and black basalt is the heart of Catania.
